Nintendo Of Europe has agreed to pay a €35 Million for the infamous Joy-Con drift issue that plagued the original Switch console.

An investigation by France’s General Directorate for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) determined that Nintendo deliberately misled consumers about the drift issue, stating that Nintendo was aware of the problems since 2018, but did not make the info public until 2020. The DGCCRF alleges that this caused customers to unnecessarily purchase replacement controllers, resulting in the fine.

While Nintendo agreed to pay the fine, they deny that they “intentionally mislead consumers”, and that this “does not constitute an admission of guilt and reflects only the amicable resolution of legal proceedings.”.
