The window may be closed, but there’s still transfer talk to be had about Liverpool — about Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali in particular.
The deadline has come and gone, and while Liverpool addressed some future needs, there is still the question of the midfield.
Tonali should be on Liverpool’s radar. He’s exactly the profile of midfielder the Reds need as they enter a new era at Anfield.
His name was brought up in plenty of January discussions, but a move was never realistic.
By the time the summer window opens, though, it will be a different story.
Sandro Tonali’s agent opens the door to Liverpool for summer move
In the late hours of deadline day, Fabrizio Romano revealed on YouTube that there was no chance of a Tonali move in this window.
He said: “In the summer, I think we have to be attentive because there could be movements around Tonali. But now in January, deadline day, Arsenal, Tonali is impossible.”

The idea of him being gettable in the summer was further reinforced by a statement Romano got from his agent, Giuseppe Riso.
He told the transfer expert: “It’s not even being discussed now”.
“We will see around March about Sandro’s valuation but only if Newcastle decide to open doors”.
Riso clarified that the midfielder is fully focused on Newcastle until the end of the season, at which point further discussions may be had.
Sandro Tonali should be a target for Liverpool
Tonali has been exceptional since joining Newcastle — a physical, yet technical midfielder just as comfortable in possession as he is chasing the ball.
Liverpool aren’t short of quality in that department, but the profiles currently available to Arne Slot are quite similar.
With Curtis Jones constantly linked away from Liverpool, there may be a vacancy that needs filling.
How much longer should Liverpool persevere with Curtis Jones?
Surely there are better options out there in the market…
A summer move sounds very possible, especially considering the disappointing campaign Newcastle are going through right now.
One to watch later this year.
