Andy Robertson’s time as a Liverpool player could now be coming to an end within the next week.
Liverpool are set to face Bournemouth in a Premier League clash on Saturday, and the left-back should be involved.
However, Andy Robertson’s farewell game could take place on Wednesday, January 28, at Anfield against Qarabag FK.
It comes with the 31-year-old telling Liverpool he wants to join Tottenham after surprising links emerged on Friday.
The Scotsman is out of contract this summer and has lost his starting place to Milos Kerkez, so an exit in the future did seem likely.
Former Liverpool coach’s role in Andy Robertson to Tottenham
However, the Spurs links were sudden and seemingly came out of nowhere.
Now, though, journalist Dean Jones has shed some light on why the Lilywhites suddenly decided to move for Robertson.
Jones suggested John Heitinga’s arrival at Tottenham played an important role, with the coach, of course, spending the 2024/25 season as an assistant under Slot at Liverpool.
He said on his Patreon: “The most random story of the day was Andy Robertson → Tottenham. It’s important to realise that while Spurs already had an eye on him, the arrival of John Heitinga seems to have sparked this one into life more suddenly.
“They have a good relationship from working together at Liverpool. It has a chance of happening. You may have seen that Spurs also have an eye on Curtis Jones, and there is indeed something in that.”
Slot is backing Liverpool for a top-four finish. Where do you think the Reds will end 25/26?
Liverpool can’t sell Curtis Jones to Tottenham
As Dean Jones mentioned, Tottenham have been linked to Curtis Jones as well this winter.
The Liverpool midfielder is a divisive figure among the fanbase and can be quite an inconsistent player.
However, there is simply no way the Reds can allow the Englishman to leave Anfield this month.
Slot doesn’t expect Liverpool to make any signings in January, and allowing Jones to depart would take away any midfield depth they have.
Wataru Endo would then be the only natural cover for Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, and the Japan international has played just 242 minutes of football this season.
