We’re just days out from the transfer deadline, and Liverpool might be about to surprise us with a late swoop for a young midfielder wanted all across Europe.
Liverpool might not be making any marquee moves this month, but they could seal a deal for a youngster with a bright future.
Despite Jeremie Frimpong’s name being added to the injury list, Liverpool aren’t expected to sign a right-back before the end of the window.
Who on earth is playing at right-back for Liverpool vs Newcastle?
The rest of the XI picks itself, surely?
There is little to suggest any big spending this January, but this newly linked target wouldn’t cost much at all.
Liverpool eyeing Norwegian midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl
The latest product of the golden generation of Norwegian talent is Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl.
The 20-year old is an all-action midfielder. Described as ‘powerful’ by scout Kai Watson, the 6’4″ number six is a presence in the middle of the park, a strong ball-carrier who can also pop up with a goal or an assist — a real unique weapon to be added to Arne Slot’s arsenal.

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb recently reported a £6 million bid for Hjerto-Dahl was put forth by Besiktas, with Lazio, Bologna, and of course, Liverpool also interested.
In the Premier League, too, Brighton and Leeds have been linked with the Norwegian. Rangers are also looking in his direction.
A player in high demand, but none of those clubs have the same pull as Liverpool.
A sub-£10 million fee for such a highly-regarded youngster sounds like a gamble well worth taking. Liverpool could yet come in with a bid of their own.
Liverpool will sell a midfielder this summer
The Reds are being linked with midfielders all the time, and it looks likely at least one will come to Anfield in the summer, if not in the next week.
It’s a department Liverpool are well-stocked in, and any new signing would surely spell the end for one of Slot’s current midfield options.

Curtis Jones was linked with Spurs earlier this month, while Wataru Endo is another potential departure at the end of the season.
How much longer should Liverpool persevere with Curtis Jones?
Surely there are better options out there in the market…
One to monitor with many clubs vying for Hjerto-Dahl’s services. Even if Liverpool do get a deal over the line, it shouldn’t be the last we see of the midfield personnel shift.
